Rafael Vargas-Suarez makes abstractions out of various forms of scientific information and physical experience (like the rhythms of his breath). On this studio visit with the artist, who was born and raised minutes away from NASA's Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center, in Houston, and now lives in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Vargas-Suarez makes a painting from the live feed of a space walk on May 20, 2011, during the next-to-last Space Shuttle mission.
